The Grand Tarabya stands on the shore of Tarabya Bay in Sarıyer, on the European side of the upper Bosphorus, with a marina below. The 12-storey hotel reopened in February 2013 on the site of the Büyük Tarabya Hotel of 1966 and is now managed by Accor. It has 248 rooms and suites plus residences, and a column-free Grand Ballroom of 1,280 sq m that seats 800 to 900 for dinner.

The Grand Tarabya at a glance

• Rooms: 248 rooms and suites (177 rooms, 70 suites and a 495 sq m presidential suite), plus 29 residences of one to three bedrooms (one hotel page says 30); about 500 staying guests in the rooms and suites at two per room.
• Setting: On the water at Tarabya Bay, Sarıyer, with Bosphorus, bay or marina views from every room on the hotel’s description; the Historic Peninsula is about 45 minutes by car.

An Indian wedding at The Grand Tarabya

The ballroom sets the scale. At 1,280 sq m it seats 800 to 900 for dinner, while the 248 rooms and suites sleep about 500 guests at two per room. That suits 300 to 500 guests with everyone in-house, ideally with the hotel booked exclusively. For larger lists, the residences add space, and IWP books extra rooms at other Bosphorus hotels with transfers to each function.

How the celebrations fit The Grand Tarabya

• Mehendi by the 810 sq m outdoor pool in the warmer months, or in Panorama, whose floor-to-ceiling windows look over Tarabya.
• Sangeet in one or two sections of the Grand Ballroom (dinner for 240–300 in one section, 480–600 in two), with room for a stage and dance floor.
• Pheras on the Panorama Terrace or beside the pool for a daytime ceremony with the Bosphorus in view; Panorama itself is the indoor alternative.
• Reception in the full Grand Ballroom, with welcome drinks in its daylit foyer, which looks over the Bosphorus.

• Premium, 150–250 guests, 3 days: US$315,000–525,000 (₹3–5 crore).
• Royal, 300–500 guests, 4 days: US$725,000–1.05 million (₹7–10 crore).
• Ultra-luxe, 500+ guests or a full-property buyout, 3–4 days: US$1.05 million and above (₹10 crore+).

Best dates

Istanbul’s weather is best for outdoor functions from April to June and in September and October; winter is wet and suits a ballroom wedding. The 2027 Hindu calendar has no muhurats in August, September or October (Chaturmas), so families who follow the muhurat usually choose late April to June, which has 44 dates from 18 April, or November, which has 11 dates from 10 November. The Grand Tarabya’s pool and terraces suit the spring dates; in November and the winter months, the Grand Ballroom and Panorama carry the wedding indoors.
