Indian Destination Wedding in Turkey: Visa, Flights, Costs and Dates

What Indian and NRI families need to know before choosing Istanbul, Bodrum or Antalya: visas, flights, legal registration, budgets and best dates.

Türkiye sets Europe against Asia across the Bosphorus, and gives an Indian wedding a palace ballroom, an Aegean beach or a pine-forest resort within a single short-haul flight. This guide covers what a planning family needs before booking: entry rules for guests, flight options from India, the UK and North America, how the marriage is registered in India, realistic budgets and the best dates against the 2027 Hindu calendar.

Visas and entry for guests

Flights from India, the UK and North America

Only two India–Türkiye city pairs fly nonstop: Delhi–Istanbul and Mumbai–Istanbul, each served once daily by Turkish Airlines and once daily by IndiGo. Turkish Airlines, using Boeing 777-300ER, A330-300 or 787-9 aircraft, takes about 6h45m from Delhi and 6h55m from Mumbai (returns about 6h and 6h20m). IndiGo flew the same routes on wet-leased Turkish Airlines 777s until that arrangement ended on 27 February 2026. Since 1 May 2026, IndiGo has flown its own nonstop Airbus A321XLR from Delhi (departing 06:15, arriving Istanbul 12:15, about 8h30m; the return leaves Istanbul 18:35 and lands in Delhi the next morning, about 8h15m), while its Mumbai service uses an A320neo with a technical stop at Ras Al Khaimah, taking 9 hours or more. From London, Turkish Airlines and British Airways together fly 7–10 times daily, about 3h40m–4h05m. New York–Istanbul is Turkish Airlines only, 3–4 times daily, up to about 10h10m; Toronto–Istanbul is served by Turkish Airlines daily and Air Transat three times a week, about 9h45m–10h05m. Onward, Bodrum and Antalya are about an hour's domestic flight from Istanbul, run mainly by Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet. Türkiye keeps UTC+3 all year with no clock changes, so it is 2 hours 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time throughout the year.

Legal registration of the marriage

Türkiye recognises only a civil marriage performed under its own Civil Code; a Hindu, Sikh or other religious ceremony has no legal standing there. IWP plans the Hindu (or other faith) ceremony in Türkiye, and the couple completes the legal registration in India, before or after the wedding, exactly as the Ministry of External Affairs advises for any marriage abroad. Most couples use the Special Marriage Act, 1954: notice goes to the Marriage Officer where either partner has lived for 30 days, and the marriage is solemnised a month later if there is no objection; a marriage already celebrated abroad can also be registered this way after a 30-day public notice. Hindu couples domiciled in India can instead register under Section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, through the local Sub-Registrar. Either way, the MEA's advice is to register the marriage alongside the social wedding and to carry the certificate at all times.

What an Indian wedding in Turkey costs

These are IWP's indicative, all-inclusive bands (venue and rooms, food and beverage, décor and production, entertainment, guest logistics and planning), which we price exactly for your dates:

Season, night count and whether you take the whole property move the figure most. A Bodrum buyout in July commands peak rates; the same resort in May or October, or an Istanbul ballroom in winter, generally costs less for the same guest count.

Best months to marry in Turkey

Istanbul is mild and fairly dry from April to June and September to early October; July and August are warm, around 30°C, and the driest months, while November to March is cool and wet, which is why winter weddings there move indoors to a ballroom. Bodrum follows the same April–June and September–early-October window, with July and August dry but hot (the Bodrum EDITION, for one, opens only from around April to October); Antalya's coast is best April to June and again September to November, with July–August very hot and November–February its rainy season.

For 2027, IWP's New Delhi panchang lists 95 Hindu wedding dates: 9 in January (15–31), 13 in February, 7 in March (1–14), 9 in late April (18–28), 19 in May, 16 in June, 5 in July (7–12), none at all in August, September or October (Chaturmas), 11 from 10 November, and 6 in December (7–14). September and October have the best weather but no muhurat that year, so families who plan around the panchang generally choose late April to June, which holds 44 of the 95 dates, or November. Food and rituals

IWP brings Indian chefs to work with the hotel kitchen, flies in a pandit and builds the mandap; fire, fireworks, music hours and the baraat are agreed with the hotel in advance. Turkish hotel kitchens are used to large banquets, so the chefs work alongside the resident team on the chaat, the dal and the wedding feast, while the hotel's own restaurants cover Turkish and international meals for guests who want them across the stay.

Guest logistics

Because only two flights a day serve each nonstop city pair, most families group guests onto the same Turkish Airlines or IndiGo departure and block rooms across two or three hotels once the guest count firms up; the Turkey venues page and the Istanbul, Bodrum and Antalya listings above are what we shortlist from. Indian guests should start the e-Visa or sticker-visa process as soon as travel dates are confirmed, since the sticker-visa appointment cannot be booked more than 60 days out, and should travel with any older passport that carries a supporting visa. Airport transfers run from Istanbul (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), Milas–Bodrum (BJV) or Antalya (AYT), depending on the venue, and we schedule these around the two daily nonstop arrivals from India as well as connecting guests from the UK and North America.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Turkey, and does a Canadian visa or PR help?

Most Indian passport holders need a visa. Those with a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit can apply for an e-Visa online; a Canadian visa or PR card does not qualify, so those guests need one of the other visas as well, or a sticker visa from the Turkish visa centre in India.

Which airlines fly nonstop from India to Istanbul, and how long does it take?

Turkish Airlines and IndiGo, once daily each, from Delhi and Mumbai. Turkish Airlines takes about 6h45m–6h55m. IndiGo now flies its own aircraft, since its wet-leased Turkish Airlines 777s stopped on 27 February 2026, and takes about 8 to 9 hours.
