Destination Wedding in Dubai for Indian Couples

Why couples are choosing Dubai for their Indian wedding

Dubai has quietly become one of the most sought-after destinations for Indian weddings — particularly for NRI couples in the UK, USA, and Australia, and for Indian couples planning a wedding their international guests can easily attend. Here's why.

Direct flights from India's major cities

Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad all have direct flights to Dubai, and Dubai is a major connecting hub for guests flying in from the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia. Older relatives and families with young children usually find one short flight easier than a multi-leg journey to a smaller Indian city.

Taxes: 5% VAT in the UAE, 18% GST in India

A Dubai wedding is not tax-free: the UAE charges VAT at a standard rate of 5%. In India, event management and most wedding services carry 18% GST. The gap helps on services, but hotel rooms, alcohol and imported flowers usually cost more in Dubai, so compare complete quotes rather than tax rates alone.

World-class venues built for grand celebrations

Unlike many destinations where you adapt the venue to a wedding, Dubai's luxury hotels are purpose-built for events on a grand scale. Palazzo Versace has a ballroom that holds 1,000 guests under one roof. Grand Hyatt has indoor and outdoor venues for separate functions on the same day. Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah offers private beach access for a sundowner ceremony.

Visas for your wedding guests

Guests with US, UK, Canadian, Australian or EU passports do not need to apply for a UAE visa before travel; the length of stay depends on the passport. Indian-passport guests who hold a valid visa, residence permit or green card from the USA, the UK or an EU country (or from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan or South Korea) can get a 14-day visa on arrival for AED 100, extendable once for AED 250. Other Indian-passport guests need a UAE visa before they fly. Rules change, so IWP rechecks every guest list before invitations go out.

October to March: ideal Indian wedding season

Dubai's wedding season runs October through March, with temperatures between 18°C and 28°C — comfortable for outdoor sangeet, baraat processions, and rooftop receptions. December and January are peak; venue rates are highest then. October, November, February, and March offer better pricing with equally pleasant weather.

Five hand-picked wedding venues in Dubai

IWP has executed Indian weddings at all five of these properties. We've negotiated planner rates with each and know which suite, ballroom, and outdoor space matches which kind of celebration. Palazzo Versace Dubai

Best for: Italian-meets-Indian luxury, 800-1,200 guests, fusion ceremonies.

Our most-booked Dubai property. The Versace-designed ballroom transforms beautifully under a floral mandap; the courtyard pool area is ideal for sangeet and cocktail receptions. Indian catering is in-house and pre-approved by our team.

Armani Hotel Dubai (inside Burj Khalifa)

Best for: Intimate, ultra-modern weddings of 150-300 guests; couples who want the Burj Khalifa skyline as backdrop.

Giorgio Armani's only Middle East hotel, inside the world's tallest building. Smaller than Palazzo Versace, but every detail is custom. Excellent for couples who want a modern, minimalist Indian wedding — think monochrome mandaps, sculptural florals, and views across the Dubai Fountain show during the pheras.

Armani Dubai for indian wedding

Grand Hyatt Dubai

Best for: Large traditional Indian weddings; 1,000+ guests; multi-day affairs.

The most accommodating ballrooms in Dubai for big-fat-Indian-weddings. Three connected ballroom spaces let you run mehendi, sangeet, and the main ceremony as separate events with separate themes. In-house Indian chef team, on-site dhol players, and dedicated baraat staging area.

Grand Hyatt Dubai for indian Wedding

Park Hyatt Dubai

Best for: Intimate weddings of 100-250 guests; couples who want Moroccan-style architecture and creek views.

Low-rise Moroccan-style resort along Dubai Creek. Walled garden venues and private courtyards make this our pick for couples who want privacy and a more boutique aesthetic. Excellent for sundowner mehendi ceremonies and intimate phera setups.

Park Hyatt Dubai for indian wedding

Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah

Best for: Beach weddings; 300-600 guests; couples who want a resort experience for guests across 3-5 days.

Set on the Palm Jumeirah crescent with private beach access. The lawn-and-beach setup is perfect for a sundowner sangeet and a daytime phera ceremony with the ocean as backdrop. Best property for couples whose guests are flying in and treating the wedding as a destination vacation.

How much does an Indian wedding in Dubai actually cost?

These are IWP's budget bands for a complete multi-day Indian wedding. Final cost depends on guest count, season, venue and the scale of decor.

Ultra-luxe500+ or buyout4–5 days₹10 crore+US$1.05 million+AED 3.86 million+

These are all-inclusive bands: venue, catering, decor, planning fees and hotel rooms for the wedding party. They do not include guest flights, sightseeing, a pre-wedding shoot or the honeymoon. AED figures use the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 to US$1.

What's typically NOT cheaper than India

• Alcohol — import duties and licensing make bar costs higher than in India.
• Imported flowers — most florals are flown in, which raises decor costs.
• Performers from India — visas, flights and rooms for a band add to the budget.

What's typically cheaper than India

• Tax on services — 5% UAE VAT against 18% GST on event services in India.
• Logistics for international guests — fewer hotel nights needed because Dubai is the midpoint.
• Photography and videography — Dubai has competitive day-rates from international photographers.

Legal requirements: marrying in Dubai

The legal side of a Dubai wedding is more straightforward than most couples expect — but the rules differ depending on your residency and nationality. Here's what applies.

If you are an Indian couple (both Indian passport holders, India-resident)

Most Indian couples do their legal marriage in India (typically Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act registration) and treat the Dubai celebration as the religious + social ceremony. This is the simplest path: no UAE residency requirements and no Dubai court appearances. The Hindu/Sikh/Jain religious ceremony in Dubai is fully recognized in India once you've completed the Indian registration.

If one or both of you live in the UAE or hold foreign passports

Non-Muslim UAE residents can marry under the UAE's civil personal status law, Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2022; Abu Dhabi also has its own civil-marriage law for non-Muslims. Documents, eligibility for non-residents and processing times differ by emirate and change often, so confirm with the court before you fix dates. Many couples register the marriage in their home country and hold the religious and family ceremony in Dubai.

IWP handles legal coordination as part of our planning package. We work with a panel of UAE-based notaries and translators familiar with Indian, NRI, and international marriage documentation. Please don't navigate this alone — small errors in document attestation can delay your wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions

IWP plans Dubai weddings to four all-inclusive budget bands: Intimate (50–100 guests) from about ₹1 crore (US$105,000); Premium (150–250 guests) ₹3–5 crore (US$315,000–525,000); Royal (300–500 guests) ₹7–10 crore (US$725,000–1.05 million); Ultra-luxe (500+ guests or a buyout) ₹10 crore+ (US$1.05 million+). Bands cover venue, catering, decor, planning and hotel rooms for the wedding party; guest flights and pre- or post-wedding events are extra.

Not as a rule. The UAE charges 5% VAT against 18% GST on event services in India, but hotel rooms, alcohol and imported flowers usually cost more in Dubai. IWP uses the same four budget bands as in India, so compare complete quotes for the same guest count rather than tax rates alone.

Dubai's wedding season runs October through March, when daytime temperatures stay between 18°C and 28°C. December and January are peak months and command the highest venue rates. October, November, February, and March offer pleasant weather with better pricing. Avoid June-September when temperatures regularly exceed 40°C.

Yes, though most Indian couples find it simpler to complete legal registration in India (under the Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act) and have the religious/social ceremony in Dubai. UAE residents can use the Dubai Courts' Special Marriage Section. Foreign citizens (US/UK/EU) can also legally marry in Dubai but most opt to register at home first.

Guests with US, UK, Canadian, Australian or EU passports do not need to apply for a UAE visa before travel. IWP checks every guest's documents before invitations go out.

For peak season (December-January), book 10-14 months in advance. For shoulder season (October-November, February-March), 6-8 months. Off-season (April-May, September) can be planned in as little as 4 months. The 5 top hotels are usually booked 6+ months out for Indian weddings specifically because we need to block multiple ballroom spaces.

Dubai has large hotel ballrooms built for big events, direct flights from India's major cities and easy connections for guests from the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. Rajasthan has heritage palaces, a deeper cultural setting and usually lower venue and bar costs. Couples often choose Dubai when many guests live abroad; some hold a smaller wedding in Dubai and a larger reception in India.

Grand Hyatt Dubai and Palazzo Versace Dubai suit large weddings of 800 guests or more. Armani Hotel Dubai (150–300 guests) and Park Hyatt Dubai (100–250 guests) suit smaller weddings, and Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah suits a beach wedding. See all our UAE wedding venues.

Yes. We arrange white-horse or vintage-car baraats at all 5 of our partner venues. The hotel pre-clears the entry route and we have working relationships with the equestrian vendors. Dhol players, fireworks at the entry point, and a 15-minute procession can be coordinated.

All 5 of our partner venues have Indian executive chefs and pre-approved Jain, Hindu (no onion/garlic), Swaminarayan, and Vaishnav menu options. We handle dietary briefings as part of the planning checklist.

Yes. Hotel venues are licensed to serve alcohol at private events. Costs are higher than in India because of import duties. We help you choose between a full bar, a premium-only bar or a dry wedding.

Yes, this is a significant portion of our Dubai work. We do video venue walkthroughs in your time zone, share Notion/Google Drive workspaces for decor and timelines, and have planning calls on US/UK hours. Many of our NRI couples never physically visit Dubai until the wedding week itself.
