A 2,027 SQ M BALLROOM IN A RESTORED GOLDEN HORN SHIPYARD

Rixos Tersane Istanbul opened in September 2024 in the restored Ottoman naval shipyards of Tersane Istanbul, on the Golden Horn in Beyoğlu. It is the Rixos group’s flagship, with 432 rooms and suites, many facing the water, an infinity pool over the Golden Horn and the Tersane Ballroom: 2,027 sq m, for up to 2,016 guests, with banquets of up to 1,560.

• Rooms: 432 rooms and suites, including 57 suites on the hotel’s event listing; 55 suites have their own terraces; about 865 staying guests at two per room.
• Setting: Golden Horn waterfront in Beyoğlu, inside the 600-year-old Tersane shipyard, now a restored waterfront district; the hotel opened on 2 September 2024.
• Indoor venues: Tersane Ballroom, 2,027 sq m (up to 2,016 guests; banquets up to 1,560), with a 929 sq m foyer; two further event rooms totalling 984 sq m for up to 850; the Tersane Istanbul Event Hall, a waterfront hall in the same complex.
• Outdoor venues: The infinity-pool terrace over the Golden Horn and Velena by the Sea; at launch, the all-day restaurant’s heated outdoor terrace was described as seating up to 500.
• Dining: Velena (all-day), Velena by the Sea (poolside), Josephine Istanbul (lobby lounge), Gowden Club (cigars and cocktails), Em Sherif (Lebanese) and MykOrini (Greek).

• Getting there: Istanbul Airport (IST) about 41 km, roughly 45 minutes by car; Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), on the Asian side, about an hour by car.

An Indian wedding at Rixos Tersane Istanbul

Rixos Tersane Istanbul is built for scale. The ballroom takes banquets of up to 1,560, and the 432 rooms sleep about 865 guests, so a wedding of 500 guests or more can stay and celebrate in one place. For 300 to 500 guests, a large room block is usually enough; for guest lists beyond the hotel’s capacity, IWP adds rooms at nearby hotels in Beyoğlu.

How the celebrations fit Rixos Tersane Istanbul

• Mehendi by the infinity pool, looking over the Golden Horn, or on the heated terrace of the all-day restaurant in cooler months.
• Sangeet in one of the two further event rooms (984 sq m between them, up to 850 guests), leaving the Tersane Ballroom free for the reception build.
• Pheras on the pool terrace in spring or early summer, facing the Golden Horn; in winter, in one of the event rooms.
• Reception in the Tersane Ballroom, 2,027 sq m, with welcome drinks in its 929 sq m foyer.

Best dates

Istanbul’s weather is best for outdoor functions from April to June and in September and October; winter is wet and suits a ballroom wedding. The 2027 Hindu calendar has no muhurats in August, September or October (Chaturmas), so families who follow the muhurat usually choose late April to June, which has 44 dates from 18 April, or November, which has 11 dates from 10 November.
