Indian Wedding in India from the UAE and the Gulf: A Guide for NRI Families

Many of the families we plan for live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait and Riyadh, and hold the wedding in India, close to the grandparents and the wider family. This guide sets out what a Gulf-based family needs to decide first: the dates, the city, the budget in dirhams, visas for any non-Indian guests, flights and how to plan it from the Gulf.

Choose the date first

Most families fix the date from the Hindu muhurat calendar. In 2027 there are no muhurat dates from August to October, so the winter months fill early. Our 2027 Hindu wedding dates list every date month by month, and the 2028 Hindu wedding dates are ready for families planning further ahead. Tamil families can use the Tamil muhurtham dates for 2027. November to February is also the mildest season in Rajasthan and Goa.

Plan around the Gulf weekend

  • UAE: the federal government and the governments of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah work a four-and-a-half-day week, with Friday as a half day and Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. Sharjah’s government works Monday to Thursday, with a Friday-to-Sunday weekend.
  • Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia: set the wedding weekend around your own country’s weekend and school holidays, so that guests need the fewest days off.
  • Most families hold the mehendi and sangeet on the first two days and the wedding and reception on the weekend, so guests can fly out on a Thursday night and be back at work by Monday or Tuesday.

Visas: who needs one

  • Indian passport holders, who make up most guests from the Gulf, do not need a visa to travel to India. OCI card holders do not need one either.
  • Guests on other passports need a visa. Nationals of the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait are on the list of countries eligible for the Indian e-Visa; Saudi Arabia is not on that list, so Saudi nationals apply for a regular visa through an Indian mission. Eligibility goes by passport, not by country of residence, so a British or Filipino guest living in Dubai checks the list for their own nationality.
  • The e-Tourist Visa is issued for 30 days, one year or five years. Apply at least four days and up to 120 days before arrival; the passport must have at least six months’ validity when you apply.
  • e-Visa holders can enter through 36 designated airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and both Goa airports (Dabolim and Mopa). Udaipur is not on the list, so e-Visa guests for an Udaipur wedding land in Delhi, Mumbai or Jaipur first.

Flights from the Gulf

  • Goa: Qatar Airways flies from Doha to Goa’s Manohar International Airport (Mopa).
  • Jaipur and Udaipur: plan on connecting via Delhi or Mumbai, then a short domestic flight or a drive to the venue.
  • Gulf–India schedules can change at short notice: in March 2026 airspace restrictions in West Asia led Air India and Air India Express to cancel some Gulf flights for several days. We build each guest-travel plan with a fallback routing.

Planning from the Gulf

  • One senior planner for the whole wedding, with calls set to Gulf time (India is 90 minutes ahead of the UAE and Oman, and two and a half hours ahead of Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia).
  • Video walk-throughs of every shortlisted venue; many Gulf families also fly in for a weekend site visit.
  • A single guest-travel plan: arrivals into Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur or Goa, domestic flights or cars to the venue, airport welcome desks.
  • Indian ceremonies run as your family does them: pandit, mandap, mehendi, sangeet and baraat.

A 12-month timeline

12 months out: fix the date and city; hold the venue. 9 months: room block and guest list; save-the-dates. 6 months: décor, menus, artists; non-Indian guests check visa eligibility. 3 months: itinerary, flights and travel desk; e-Visa applications go in. Wedding week: our team runs every function.
