Ajit Bhawan was built in 1927 in local red sandstone as the residence of Maharaj Dhiraj Sir Ajit Singh of Marwar-Jodhpur, a son of Maharaja Sir Sardar Singh. In the early 1980s Maharaj Swaroop Singh and Rani Usha Devi opened part of it as a 12-room hotel, which the family calls India’s first heritage hotel. It now has about 65 rooms, suites and tents on Circuit House Road, 1.5 km from Umaid Bhawan Palace, and a 10,000 sq ft garden for 400 guests.
IWP shortlists Ajit Bhawan for heritage weddings of 100 to 250 guests who want a family-run palace hotel in the heart of Jodhpur. This page gives you the facts we use when we shortlist it: rooms, venues, distances, best dates and what an Indian wedding here costs.
At two guests per room Ajit Bhawan sleeps about 130, so it suits an exclusive wedding for up to 130 staying guests. For 150 to 400 guests, IWP takes the whole hotel for the two families and places the rest of the guests at other Jodhpur hotels, with transfers. The Zenana Garden, for 400, is the largest space; J’Bar, the Garden Restaurant and Jodhpur Café take 200 to 300.
These are IWP’s indicative, all-inclusive bands (venue and rooms, food and beverage, décor and production, entertainment, guest logistics and planning), which we price exactly for your dates:
The Premium band assumes some guests stay at nearby hotels. An exclusive buyout of Ajit Bhawan for a larger celebration sits in our Royal band, ₹7–10 crore (US$725,000–1.05 million). What moves the number here: season, nights, buyout versus shared, the number of functions and how many guests stay elsewhere. See all wedding venues in Jodhpur and compare wedding costs in Udaipur and in Jaipur.
Jodhpur’s wedding season runs from October to March, and the old city, Mehrangarh and Umaid Bhawan are all close enough for guests to visit between functions. In 2027 there are no muhurats from August to October; November (11 dates, from 10 November), December (6, from 7 to 14 December), January (9, from 15 January), February (13) and March (7, up to 14 March) give 46 dates inside the season. Ajit Bhawan has about 65 rooms, suites and tents in seven categories, from 315 sq ft Vintage Tents to the 1,852 sq ft Presidential Suite. At two guests per room that is about 130 staying guests. For larger weddings IWP places the rest of the guest list at other Jodhpur hotels and runs the transfers.
IWP’s indicative, all-inclusive bands are from about ₹1 crore (US$105,000) for 50–100 guests over 2 days and ₹3–5 crore (US$315,000–525,000) for 150–250 guests over 3 days, with some guests at nearby hotels. An exclusive buyout for a larger celebration sits in the Royal band, ₹7–10 crore (US$725,000–1.05 million).
Outdoors, the Zenana Garden (10,000 sq ft; up to 400) and the al fresco Garden Restaurant (250 seated, with a mandap area). Indoors, Jodhpur Café (about 200), J’Bar (up to 300), the Dhani restaurant and the Shamyana tented hall (120 theatre-style). The Green Garden and Champa Court suit smaller gatherings.
About 4 km, or 12 minutes by car, from Jodhpur Airport (JDH), and about 7 minutes by car from Jodhpur Junction railway station. Umaid Bhawan Palace is 1.5 km away and Mehrangarh Fort about a 15-minute drive, so guests can see the city between functions.
It was built in 1927 for Maharaj Dhiraj Sir Ajit Singh, a son of Maharaja Sir Sardar Singh of the Rathore family that ruled Jodhpur. In the early 1980s Maharaj Swaroop Singh and Rani Usha Devi turned part of it into a 12-room hotel, which the family says began India’s heritage hotels. Their Ajit Group runs it and also owns Rawla Narlai.
October to March, Jodhpur’s wedding season, when garden functions are comfortable. In 2027 the Hindu calendar gives 46 muhurat dates in that window: 11 in November, 6 in December, 9 in January, 13 in February and 7 in March. There are none from August to October.
Yes. IWP brings Indian chefs to work with the hotel kitchen, flies in a pandit and builds the mandap; fire, fireworks, music hours and the baraat are agreed with the hotel in advance. The Garden Restaurant has a set area for the mandap, and Dhani serves Rajasthani thalis.
